The Renfrew Wolves came up just a bit short for the second straight game against the Ottawa Jr. Senators in Game Three of their CCHL Semi Finals series.
The Wolves came into the Jim Durrell Sports Complex in Ottawa on Wednesday having split the first two games, including Sunday’s 3-2 overtime loss at the Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre.
Penalty troubles bit the Wolves late in the first period, as a tripping call gave the Jr. Senators power play unit time to set up in front of the Renfrew net. Philippe Jacques would take advantage for his third goal of the playoffs to put Ottawa up 1-0 just before the end of the period.
The Ottawa power play would strike a second time as the game resumed, with another tripping infraction on the Wolves early in the second opening up the ice for Julian Recine to find Simon Isabelle at the side of the Renfrew goal to add to the lead, 2-0.
The Wolves mounted a late effort to get back into the game, as Charlie Johnson scored a short-handed goal five minutes into the third period to bring the score to 2-1. However, that’s as close as Renfrew would get as the game closed without an equalizer.
Wolves goaltender Will Craig made 35 saves on 37 attempts. William Desmarais stopped 30 of 31 shots in a winning effort for Ottawa.
The Jr. Senators lead the series 2 games to 1, as the series now heads back to Renfrew for a Friday, April 29th tilt at the MAC. The game starts at 7:00PM.
