The provincial government is providing a financial boost to help train plumbers and pipefitters throughout Ontario.
They’ve tabbed over $11.6 million dollars for two separate projects that will help apprentices in plumbing, steamfitting, welding, sprinkler fitting, and refrigeration upgrade their skills.
The Ontario Pipe Trades Council is getting $10.5 million, which they plan to use by offering state-of-the-art training to over a thousand apprentices. The money will also be used to purchase of specialized equipment like spider cranes, so that apprentices can learn proper operating techniques.
Just over another million dollars will go to a Joint Training and Apprenticeship Committee Training Centre, that will deliver 6-to-8 weeks of training for another 488 plumbers, steamfitters, and welders.
The total investment is funded in part by Ontario’s Skills Development Fund.
