Enbridge is planning to expand natural gas to Eganville and the surrounding area. An update was provided to Bonnechere Valley council on Tuesday afternoon (April 19th, 2022).
Sonia Fazari, the Senior Advisor of Municipal and Stakeholder Engagement for Enbridge Gas, told the Township of Bonnechere Valley that 22-kilometers of new pipeline and service stations will be built to accommodate the expansion.
Fazari says Enbridge is planning to build new pipelines to provide natural gas from Cobden Road to Eganville and distribute gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Eganville and other parts of Bonnechere Valley, Admaston/Bromley and North Algona Wilberforce.
Enbridge is considering several proposed routes for the natural gas pipeline expansion and a timeline provided to council says construction could begin near the end of 2023 depending on permits and regulatory approvals.
In 2021, $26.16-million in funding was announced to connect 674 residents to natural gas through Enbridge. Information provided in 2021 suggested the average household could save between $250 to $1,500 per year in energy costs by switching to natural gas from costlier fuel sources.
Representatives from Enbridge indicated they wanted to provide Bonnechere Valley Township Council with quarterly updates on the natural gas expansion project to answer questions community members may have.
