You can expect to pay more when hailing a cab in Renfrew starting in May.
Starting May 1st in-town taxi trips in Renfrew will cost $11, up from the current rate of $9. Town Council agreed to the rate hike at last week’s town council meeting after going over a request from taxi companies in Renfrew.
Reeve Peter Emon commented in support of raising cab fares. He tells myFM rising operating costs and expenses are the main culprits behind the increase.
Emon says he’s not surprised that it would be necessary to raise prices after talking to some drivers about the skyrocketing cost of gas.
Maintenance and insurance costs were also driving factors in the $2 dollar bump in fares. He went on to say that believes Renfrew’s cab companies waited as long as they could before asking to increase fares.
Emon would have preferred the cost to go up incrementally, but understands the urgency behind starting the increase May 1st.
