The Renfrew Wolves have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in their first round matchup against the Kemptville 73’s after a Good Friday victory, 5-2.
The win at the MAC comes after a Game 2 triumph on Thursday in unfriendly territory at the North Grenville Municipal Centre, 6-3.
Kemptville opened scoring early in the first as Chase Lammi beat Wolves goaltender Will Craig within the first 30 seconds. The Wolves would wrestle momentum away later in the period as Jakob Kalin evened the score at 1-1 and Owen Miley gave the Wolves the lead going into the second.
Renfrew continued to control the game through the middle frame, as Elvis Slack and Tyson Phare both found the back of the net.
The game returned a physical style of play that resembled the penalty-heavy game one earlier in the week, as the teams split 11 minor infractions in the last 20 minutes of regulation. On the scoresheet, however, Renfrew continued to hold the 73’s at bay. Brendan Hill would put the game out of reach within the first 3 minutes of the period. Kemptville were able bring the deficit back to just 3 on a Patrick Haughian effort with just under 10 minutes left, but that would be as close as the Kemptville side would get.
Wolves goalie Will Craig stopped 26 shots on 28 attempts, earning second star of the game. The 73’s Tyler Laureault had 31 saves on 36 attempts.
Renfrew has the chance to win the series outright on Sunday, as they travel to the North Grenville Municipal Centre in Kemptville for Game 4. 96.1 myFM will broadcast the game, with the puck drop at 2PM.
