The Arnprior Curling Club is having its end of the year/season Grand Mixed Fundown Bonspiel / Closing party and BBQ on Saturday the 23rd of April from 10AM to 6PM – at the Club, 15 Galvin st.
Club member John Ostris says the event has particular significance this season.
Ostris says everyone is welcome to come for the full day of activities.
Ostris says fundraising to replace the old rocks took about four years.
He says each rock costs over $500, and the club purchased 64, so the cost was over $30,000.
But after forty-plus years of annual sanding there wasn’t enough surface left for the rocks to meet game specifications.
Ostris says the veteran curlers throwing the rocks for the last time are in their 80s and 90s.
The ceremony has both historic and sentimental significance.
