It’s a score line usually reserved for the corniest of dad jokes, but last night’s 7-3 win over Kemptville 73’s was very serious message from a Wolves team that can capitalize with the man-advantage.
The Wolves would strike first early in the second, as Kemptville players began to pack the penalty box. Tyler Schweitzer opened scoring with a power play goal. Elvis Slack joined in with a power play goal of his own a few minutes later, and Brendan Hill found the back of the net on an even-strength shift as the match reached the midway point. Kemptville were able to draw a few penalties of their own later in the period and drew back to within one going into the third, off goals from Brock Krulicki and Chase Lammi.
The 73’s were able to bring the game back to square in the third on a Benjamin Campeau goal. However, Kemptville fell to more penalty troubles as the game reached it’s final ten minutes. Renfrew regained the lead thanks to a Samuel Willits tally, and Mathieu Parent added to the new lead with a power-play goal of his own. Parent would provide an extra goal for good measure before Noah Vom Scheidt’s coup de grâce in the final minutes brought Renfrew’s lead to four.
Will Craig made 37 saves on 40 shots. Kemptville’s Tyler Laureault made 33 saves on 39 attempts.
The game kept the referees busy, with 24 penalties (56 total minutes) handed out between the two sides. Kemptville accounted for 16 of the infractions and 40 minutes of total time in the penalty box including a 10 minute game misconduct to forward Brock Krulicki for a check to the head in the third period. Renfrew scored five times on the power play.
