The Renfrew Wolves were unable to respond after they allowed two power play goals late in last night’s game, losing to the Kemptville 73’s by a score of 5-2.
The game quickly became contentious as Kemptville forward Patrick J. Larkin was given a game misconduct following a check from behind midway through the first.
Renfrew were able to capitalize, as Brendan Hill found the back of the net on the man advantage half way through the first period. However, the 73’s would equalize less than a minute later thanks to Chase Lammi and they would eventually take the lead in the second off a goal from Nathan Merrett.
Tensions after Larkin’s hit were still high through the second period, as both sides committed four minor infractions each in the frame.
The Wolves showed signs of life heading into the third period, bringing the score to an even 2-2 on Jakob Kalin’s 13th of the season. The home side fell to more penalty trouble mid-way through the third, as Chase Lammi (his second of the game) and Jeff Taylor would both take advantage on the power play to give Kemptville a 4-2 lead.
Wolves Goalie Will Craig was pulled for an extra attacker in the final minutes of the game. The gamble ultimately proved fruitless when the 73’s Devon Savignac scored on the empty net in the final minute of play.
Craig stopped 33 shots on 37 attempts. Kemptville keeper Tyler Laureault made 36 stops on 38 attempts.
