UPDATE: The OPP lifted the hold and secure around noon according to the RCDSB.
The Renfrew County and District School Board (RCDSB) has locked down Madawaska Valley District High School in Barry’s Bay.
The school board posted an update on social media this morning saying everyone is inside and safe.
Madawaska Valley District High School and Sherwood Public School went into a ‘Hold and Secure’ at approximately 10:00am.
The school board says staff, students and visitors are considered to be safe inside the school and the school continues to function normally.
External doors to the building are secure and staff and students are to remain inside for the time being.
According to residents in the area, there is heavy police presence at the schools.
School staff say the decision to enact the Hold and Secure is a precautionary response to an unconfirmed threat that may be circulating online and will ensure that the school building is safely contained while permitting movement within it (i.e., regular school day activities and classes).
