As we get ready to enter the month of March when even more COVID restrictions are set to ease, our local Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Cushman, is encouraged- but cautious.
The Province’s proof of vaccination requirements are set to expire as the month begins- but that’s not carte blanche to ignore prudent practise.
Cushman says we’re generally up to three weeks behind the rest of Ontario in reaching some of the benchmarks of normalcy.
While vaccination levels across the RCDHU catchment area are very very good, one particular group lags behind.
Cushman says we should stick with the basic practices we can by now recite in our sleep.
Masking, distancing, and hand hygiene continue to be important prevention strategies.
Masks can reduce transmission by 50 to 80% and distancing provides added benefit.
Most importantly we should continue to limit gathering sizes if we want to avoid any COVID outbreak relapses.
