Leaving your car running- or just having the keys in the ignition can prove very tempting for thieves who are capitalizing on the cold weather.
While Arnprior is being held up as an example, the same enticement is present most anywhere.
Between February 4th and February 21st, OPP officers investigated 4 stolen vehicle incidents in the community.
Three of those cases involved owners leaving their vehicle idling as they run in to a store or a restaurant.
The other theft involved a vehicle with keys left in the ignition.
In a separate incident February 16th, police investigated a smash-and-grab, where the victim had their window shattered and their groceries, along with cash, were stolen.
OPP would like to remind the public there are three simple remedies: remove the keys from the ignition and lock vehicle doors when unoccupied.
Remove all valuables or keep them out of sight.
