By a vote of 185 to 151 the House of Commons approved the Prime Minister’s invocation of Canada’s Emergency Act last evening.
The vote, along partisan lines, saw the Liberals received support from the NDP- while the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois were opposed.
Trudeau had declared the Act in force the previous Monday (February 14th).
At a media briefing carried by Global News yesterday, Trudeau was asked, given that the streets of Ottawa had been cleared by police action over the Family Day weekend, was the Act still necessary?
One of the reasons the PM cited in his justification was the presence of bands of truckers remaining near Ottawa looking for the opportunity to resume their blockade.
In addition to camping at a private location off of White Lake Road, contingents of Freedom Convoy participants are reported holding near the three other encampments where they had gathered prior to entering Ottawa for their protest January 29th.
