While some former Freedom Convoy members are staying at the base of White Lake Mountain, McNab-Braeside Mayor Tom Peckett believes those worried about their presence are making the proverbial mountain out of a mole hill.
Peckett says the former Freedom Convoy participants are grabbing a little solace at the invitation of a private land owner before dispersing.
The Mayor says the Township’s only formal role was to assure that proper burn permits were in effect for the gathering.
Peckett says he has visited the location.
There is a central tent st up where participants take their meals and socialize.
The Mayor reports about forty vehicles were there when he went, about 95 percent were either pickup trucks or private cars.
Peckett says numbers fluctuate, with most heading westward after overnighting at the site.
The McNab-Braeside Mayor says he’s been told participants may stay only a matter of days, versus the three weeks the Freedom Convoy spent in the Nation’s Capital.
