Multiple media sources are reporting a story by Canadian Press reporter Marie Woolf that reveals unvaccinated truckers bringing COVID-19 vaccines and medical supplies into Canada to combat the pandemic are exempt from testing and quarantine requirements at the border.
The Health Canada exemption is for purposes of “urgent public health necessity.”
And it’s not something Health Canada thought up on its own.
The exemption is one of a number set out in an order-in-council issued by the Federal Cabinet, and published last month.
Regular COVID testing rules for truckers apply with all other cargo.
The restrictions on unvaccinated cross-border truckers have caused much political debate in Canada and said to be a sticking point for the protesters camped outside Parliament Hill.
