The County of Renfrew is looking to develop a Housing Action Plan.
Over the past couple of years, the County of Renfrew has identified that there is a need for various levels of government to further address the affordable housing situation in the region.
It has been suggested that partnerships amongst governmental organizations, private developers, and non-profit entities would prove advantageous as a path forward to seeing housing needs being met.
The report presented to the Development and Property Committee on February 8th, 2022, highlighted the need for the county for to consult with the local municipalities on the entire inventory of municipally owned property assets to determine what possibilities exist for affordable housing developments, a mixed-housing development or attainable housing developments.
Chair of the Development and Property Committee and Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet talked about how the town donated lands for a two new schools to be built (Valour and St. Francis of Assisi).
The Development and Property Committee is recommending that the County of Renfrew apply for up to $60,000 in funding to develop a new Housing Action Plan.
If approved, funding will go towards a consultant who will assist with taking the information from the County of Renfrew Housing and Homelessness Strategy and the County of Renfrew Senior’s Housing Strategy, along with extensive consultation with local municipalities, to come up with a housing action plan that would collect and review all municipal assets and provide a best practice approach for disposal and/or conversion of those assets.
