A combined exercise by three SQ detachments, (Pontiac, Gatineau and Papineau) was conducted Saturday and Sunday (February 5th and 6th).
Operation Impact targeted risky behaviour on the trails with the assistance of two regional snowmobile and ATV clubs as well as police from the MRC des Collines.
It didn’t make for a lot of fun for those involved in a number of risky behaviours, including failure to respect signage, excessive speed, wearing a helmet (or not), carrying proper paperwork (registration and insurance), and impairment by alcohol or drugs.
379 snowmobiles and 14 ATVs were checked in the blitz.
32 reports were issued under the Off-Road Vehicles Act (LVHR) for such offences as modified exhaust systems, missing equipment (such as mirrors), drivers not wearing helmets, sled lights missing and an adult traveling with a two-year-old child seated in front of him on a snowmobile along the trail.
There were 10 statements of offense and 29 warnings issued.
5 riders were kicked off the trails.
