Local students will not need masks when outdoors for recess and lunch starting this week.
Both the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) and the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) sent out updates today (Wednesday, February 9th, 2022).
Students with the RCCDSB will still need to remain in cohorts while outdoors.
The changes will come into effect on Thursday, February 10th, 2022.
The RCDSB says public health agreed to the changes provided masks remain on when cohorts can’t be maintained or if there is an inability to maintain an appropriate physical distance.
The school board says they believe this shift to allow students the option to remove their mask during the recess periods is a small but important gesture that will provide an important respite for students during outdoor play.
