The Federal Conservative Caucus has exercised its mandate and voted to replace Erin O’Toole as party leader.
Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MP Scott Reid is caucus chair, and in a statement, indicates that 73 MPs voted to replace O’Toole while 45 endorsed him.
The ballot itself was secret and MPs conducted a virtual meeting this afternoon after the leadership review was triggered Monday by one-third of members requesting it be held.
Reid, as caucus chair, did not participate in the voting.
An interim leader is likely to be chosen this afternoon.
The Canadian Press is reporting New Brunswick MP John Williamson would like to put his name forward for the temporary role.
