After looking at what its neighbours were paying for summer student wages, the Town of Arnprior has come to the realization that it was falling behind adjacent communities and it was time to play catch-up.
Treasurer Jennifer Morawiec presented a report to elected representatives at the January 24th municipal meeting.
It showed summer wages are higher in Mississippi Mills, McNab-Braeside and Renfrew than they are in the Town Where the Rivers Meet.
Morawiec suggested some adjustments, including a wage premium for students who commit to returning to a position over multiple years.
That’s Mayor Walter Stack, who notes training and retraining new candidates each year would be minimized under such an arrangement.
The process would cost the Town an extra $6300 per year, and was approved by bylaw that evening.
