The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is reporting a significant drop in new COVID-19 cases week-over-week, but hospitalizations due to the virus continue to climb.
The RCDHU has reported 319 cases in the last 7-days, a drop from the 585 cases reported the week before.
The decrease in cases comes as Ontario has changed COVID-19 testing and isolation guidelines.
While new cases across Renfrew County and District are down, COVID-related hospitalizations are on the rise.
There are currently 14 local residents in hospital with COVID-19 and nobody in the intensive care unit.
Last week, RCDHU Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Cushman, said more than half of the local residents in hospital and intensive care units are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
In addition to the 14 residents in the hospital, there’s another 495 people isolating at home after testing positive for the virus.
