When the Omicron variant forces everything to change almost on a daily basis it’s hard to keep up with what’s required for people to do, so the Renfrew County and District Health Unit is asking for your patience.
As of Monday December 20th the age limits and eligibility interval for COVID-19 booster shots has changed up once again.
Everyone in Ontario 18 years of age and over who received their second dose a minimum of 84 days ago can now book an appointment- but appointments in our region won’t be offered for a least a week or more due to distribution issues.
The changes add potentially 62 thousand people to the dosage roster, just when the RCDHU is attempting to finish up several thousand now eligible 5-11 year olds.
Dr. Robert Cushman, Acting Medical Officer of Health for the RCDHU says you should expect the Health Unit to begin offering vaccination booster clinics for the newly eligible likely in the first week of January and demand will exceed supply for the first month of the new year.
In the meantime, those looking to book an appointment locally can do so via the following online link: https://www.rcdhu.com/booking-your-covid-19-vaccine/.
ONLY those who have no online access should be calling the health unit with regards to booking an appointment- and you’ll have to be prepared to wait on hold for quite awhile before you get through.
He is hopeful that the Health Unit should be able to vaccinate upwards of 40,000 residents by the end of January.
Those who aren’t willing to wait can look to local pharmacies for vaccination opportunities. For more information, visit RCDHU’s website or call 613-732-3629 or 1-800-267-1097.
