Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Cheryl Gallant wants the Federal Government to commission a medal celebration the 70th anniversary of our majesty’s coronation.
She’s sponsoring a petition going to create the medallion since the Prime Minister didn’t think of the idea on his own.
The MP believes such a memento would celebrate a threefold purpose: to inspire public service, celebrate volunteerism, and acknowledge Canada’s history.
Gallant believes rewarding community service and volunteerism may be contrary to the Liberal philosophy of “government from cradle to grave,” although the Grits have not said so.
A riding resident, Deep River’s Lucas Bibby, initiated the e-petition after seeking to nominate an outstanding citizen, and finding no medal was planned.
The petition calls on the government to respect our history, respect tradition, and issue a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.
While the e-petition received over 1800 signatures during the last Parliament, it died when the House was dissolved for the snap pandemic election- meaning time is tight, because the official anniversary of the Queen’s 70-year reign will happen February 6th.
Canadians can sign the e-petition by clicking on the link posted on our website.
