A popular cross country ski organization and the CEO of the Pembroke Public Library have been recognized through the 2021 Warden’s Community Service Awards.
The awards were presented by County of Renfrew Warden, Debbie Robinson, at the November 24th meeting of County Council.
Warden Debbie Robinson says a heartfelt congratulations and thank you goes out to Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club, a not-for-profit organization based out of Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan, and to Karthi Rajamani, the CEO of the Pembroke Public Library.
Pembroke Mayor Mike LeMay nominated Rajamani for the award and says she came to Canada from India in 1998 and has become an invaluable part of the community.
LeMay says Rajamani has dedicated herself to providing educational, informational, and recreational programs for children as well as taking an active role in promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and literacy in our region.
Past President of the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association President and nominator of the Opeongo Hills Nordic Ski Club, Chris Hinsperger, says they’ve become an integral part of community.
Hinsperger says since the club was first established in 2011, hundreds of skiers and the volunteers that have contributed over the years have had their lives enriched.
Warden Robinson says both winners of this year’s awards exemplify what it means to be community-minded.
She adds we are fortunate to have so many amazing organizations in Renfrew County who are willing to go above and beyond to serve the needs of our residents.
