With the looming departure of Renfrew’s fire chief, the municipality is still months away from naming his replacement.
Last month fire chief, Kevin Welsh announced he’s leaving for a fire chief position in St. Thomas because if he stays, he’ll be forced to retire at 60 since his job still entails active firefighting duties.
Renfrew reeve, Peter Emon says the town is in the process of naming an interim fire chief, which will likely be announced by the end of the month.
Emon says the town won’t consider taking away its stipulation that a fire chief must be an active fire fighter since that’ll force it to hire an additional worker to make up for the shortfall.
