Arnprior Regional Health’s (ARH’s) energy management transformation has been noticed.
On Friday September 3rd, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) awarded ARH with the 2021 Wayne McLellan Award of Excellence in Healthcare Facilities Management for the facility’s strategy that upgraded the HVAC systems in the structure.
Six years ago the Hospital came to grips with the reality that the efficiency of its steam boilers and HVAC units were in decline, resulting in interior temperatures that were difficult to regulate and pricey to maintain.
As well, the 45 year-old rooftop air handling units needed to be replaced and capital funding grants for the work were not available at the time.
ARH secured a private loan for the work, financed in part by projected LED savings and set to work.
Trane Technologies was awarded the job in a competitive process, opting for gas-fired high efficiency hot water boilers and modified air exchange controls.
The CHES Wayne McLellan Award of Excellence is sponsored by Honeywell Limited, and was presented on-site by a representative of the Society’s Ontario Chapter.
