A golf tournament in the Ottawa Valley is helping families living in poverty in Guatemala.
The third annual Guatemalan Open golf tournament will be held at Whitetail Golf Club in Eganville on Saturday (August 28th, 2021).
Co-founder of Houses to Homes Canada and organizer of the event, Jeannelle Romain, says last year they were able to build nine homes and provide shelter for over 40 parents and children.
She adds they were also able to provide monthly food bags to families who were unable to work and had no source of food.
Romain says it costs about $3,500 to give a family in Guatemala a cinder block home, bunk bed, water purifier, stove and staples for one year.
She adds most of the families they help are living in homes with dirt floors and the children get sick because of the conditions.
There’s till room for teams to register and more information is available online, by email (fromhousestohomescanada@gmail.com) or by calling 613-295-8618.
