If you have a chance to check out Thursday afternoon’s Canada v. USA match at the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Calgary, you could see a familiar face behind the bench.
The game goes at 4PM and Arnprior native Doug Derraugh is serving as assistant coach of Canada’s team.
InsideOttawaValley.com recently spoke with the Cornell University Women’s Hockey team Head Coach’s parents, who could not be more proud.
Although the current championships are being carried on TSN, so tuning in is no problem, Derraugh has gifted mom and dad with an IPhone complete with an AppleTV app for the serious fan.
At Cornell, Doug’s record is an impressive 295-152-45, but the assistant coach faces quite the challenge today; the rival American squad has won the tournament’s last five titles.
Entering today’s competition, both squads are thus far undefeated.
Derraugh will also serve as an assistant coach at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
