Every year for the last two weeks in July, road work and other projects grind to a halt for the long construction vacation break.
It means beefed up SQ safety patrols during the interval.
Police indicate that during the recent construction vacation break there almost 20 thousand Highway Safety Code violations reported.
Of this number, almost 12 thousand speeding tickets were issued.
Impairments by alcohol or drugs resulted in 1,168 traffic stops leading to 313 arrests.
Collisions involving bodily injury or death both rose from 2020 numbers.
532 accidents with injuries reported exceeded last year’s total of 510- and there were 11 collisions in which 11 persons died, versus the nine killed in nine crashes the year before.
The SQ says speed, distraction and impaired driving remain the three main causes of collisions.
