Arnprior Town Council has cozied to the concept of backyard hens.
Planner Megan Rueckwald shared a report centring around the parametres dealing with the matter as she saw it.
The Planner’s presentation touched on issues of a phased-in approach, potential varmint interference, health and safety, food safety, inspections, a self-financing licencing regime with compliance penalties, hen limits and non-commercial restrictions.
The initial motion seeking public input failed when only one councillor voted in favour.
Representatives in attendance at the July 12th municipal meeting deemed Rueckwald’s report was so thorough that the concept could move forward without seeking that input.
A By-law authorizing the keeping of backyard hens will be presented to Council at its August session.
