The Gouvernement du Québec is providing $117,380 over a three-year period to assist English-speaking Quebecers in the Outaouais region cope with social isolation.
The Connexions Resource Centre, an organization active in the region will administer the funding.
More than one-quarter of all English-speaking Quebecers are age 55 or older, and many of them are especially isolated and vulnerable, thus creating major needs for health and social services.
Funding will spur the creation of Senior Wellness Centres offering a variety of activities, services and educational programming to expand awareness and ward off potential health problems.
This government funding will help in keeping Senior Wellness Centres program sustainable, extend coverage to areas of Québec that are less well served, and help overcome a lack of resources in the agencies serving the English-speaking community.
The Outaouais’s share is part of a 2.7 million investment province-wide.
