Renfrew County has received word that our area is one of four new regions that will receive funding to develop Youth Wellness Hubs.
The new centre joins ten existing hubs that provide mental health, addictions and other supportive services for youth ages of 12 through 25.
The news is a culmination of efforts submitted to Queen’s Park in 2017.
Application partners noted that many youth living in rural Renfrew County do not have the range of services available and there is no public transportation system for them to access the services and amenities offered.
The local Youth Wellness Hub will augment existing services offered at Renfrew Victoria Hospital, and provide youth and their families with access to high-quality mental health and substance use services at youth-friendly locations.
They are also integrated with primary care, education, employment, housing and other supports.
Julia Boudreau, RVH CEO, says the youth Wellness Hub will address gaps faced by youth living in remote rural areas of Renfrew County and help to ensure access to the right services, at the right time and in the right place.
The hub will build upon a long history of collaboration and integration in Renfrew County and include youth leadership and involvement to create a sustainable hub model.
