A simple spelling mistake can end up causing all kinds of complications- and sorting those out was the case at the May 25th municipal meeting in Arnprior.
Consistent with a Town plan to name new streets in the community after local veterans, Council some time ago chose to name a road in the Callahan subdivision after Gordon Fergusson, a member of the First Canadian Parachute Battalion who fought with the Sixth British Airborne and was wounded at Normandy.
Problem is, Fergusson is officially spelled with a “double s.”
That’s Mayor Walter Stack, who tells us that, in fact, Gord Fergusson Place is spelled one way on one side of the street, and with only a single “s” on the other.
A special amending bylaw was required at the Council session, as the misspelling had crept into the official records of Ontario’s Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
