Art Jamieson says he’s not much different than the hundreds and thousands of others in the Ottawa Valley he calls”the unsung people you don’t hear of”.
Born in 1940 and almost 81-years-old, Art says his body is still 21 and won’t slow down.
Art has been presented the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers for the impact he’s had in the Ottawa Valley over the course of his life.
Art and his band have played over 1,000 weddings over the years and he’s also been inducted into the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame.
Art was a teacher, principal, Reeve of Beachburg and served as the Warden of Renfrew County.
He tells myFM he’s proud of the work he did as the MC for the Easter Seal Telethon.
Art has also been the MC of the Pembroke Old Time Fiddling and Step Dancing Competition in Pembroke since the event started over 40-years ago.
Art says if you can ever help someone to go out and do it because you’ll feel just as good about it as the person you’re helping.
Art Jamieson says when he passes away many years from now he wants the governor general’s award for volunteerism he was presented to go on display at the County of Renfrew building.
He says the award represent the hundreds and thousands of volunteers who have worked just as tirelessly as him.
