There have been some creative discussions on mixing vaccine types to make sure everyone gets their second doses a quickly as possible.
A general rule of thumb being considered is that the MRNA vaccines- Pfizer and Moderna are compatible if combined, while the more traditional serum formulas, AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson could be a consideration to blend.
Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, Dr. Robert Cushman, says there is plenty of precedent for the proposal.
Cushman says there’s no hard data that COVID-19 variants of concern are resistant to the vaccines already developed, but chatter is that manufacturers are already at work developing booster shots.
