COVID-19 variants are making up most of the new cases in Renfrew County and District.
Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) Dr. Robert Cushman says 65 percent of new infections have screened positive for a COVID-19 variant of concern.
Cushman says the variants of concern are much more contagious and one case involving the variant spread to 11 other cases. Cushman says it was a super spread and adds the variants of concern are much more infectious, more transmissible and making younger people more sick.
The Acting Medical Officer of Health with the RCDHU says at one point in the last 10-days there was six hospitalizations and a number of people in the intensive care unit. Cushman says it’s not a good situation.
The RCDHU reported another seven COVID-19 infections today (April 8th, 2021). There’s 31 active COVID-19 cases spread out across Renfrew County and District.
