Arnprior activist Sophie Smith Dore was one of those who filed a complaint with the Integrity Commissioner about Mayor Walter Stack’s January pamphlet, “My Opinion” which was mailed to all residents at his own expense, and discussed his perceptions of racial mistreatment in Town.
In the document Stack called out three women, including Smith Dore, who had been vocal critics of his position on systemic racism.
Although Town Council voted to request an apology of the Mayor, Smith Dore says she is not focused on that act, as it deflects from the matter at hand.
She say the Integrity Commissioner’s proposed wrist-slap over the pamphlet was in itself a whitewash- and a next step is to take the matter to the Ontario Ombudsman’s office.
