Arnprior Town Council didn’t warm to a proposed reprimand against Mayor Walter Stack, as recommended by Integrity Commissioner Bill Hunter in response to a citizen complaint stemming from the mailout of his pamphlet, “My Opinion” in late January.
In fact, at the municipal meeting Monday March 22nd, elected representatives didn’t even accept Hunter’s report as information- meaning it is tabled off somewhere in legal never-never land.
But representatives did agree with Councillor Lisa McGee that something be done.
McGee maintains the Mayor disrespected a majority decision of Council, then did an end-run by circulating the pamphlet at his own expense- as well as calling out two residents who had taken issue with his position in public.
Integrity Commissioner Bill Hunter’s word of advice was not to leave the matter hanging- if, for example, the Mayor chose not to apologize should he be requested to do so.
Councillor McGee read the ZOOM room by asking the Mayor to say he’s sorry.
With debate on the issue concluded, Deputy Mayor Tom Burnette returned the gavel to Stack to conclude the evening’s business and mull his next move.
