The OPP has laid 18 charges against a driver attempted to avoid police.
Officers responded to a fail to remain collision on Highway 17 in McNab/Braeside.
Police say yesterday afternoon (March 17th, 2021) around 4:25pm, a complaint was received that a vehicle had struck another vehicle on Highway 17 and continued eastbound at a high rate of speed.
There was no injuries as a result of the collision.
Renfrew OPP officers activated their emergency lights when they observed the suspect vehicle on Highway 417 travelling eastbound just west of the exit for Kinburn Side Road in the City of Ottawa.
The suspect vehicle left the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 and travelled through a ditch crossing into the westbound lanes. The vehicle came to a stop on the westbound shoulder and two people exited.
The driver continued to run through a field towards Old Highway 17 in the City of Ottawa before being arrested by police.
As a result of this incident 34-year-old Dwane Desclouds has been charged with:
• Flight from peace officer
• Obstruct peace officer
• Dangerous operation Criminal Code
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order
• Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code – x 6 counts
• Failure to stop after accident
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
• Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
• Driving while under suspension – x 2 counts
• Use plate not authorized for vehicle
• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused was not granted bail today (March 17th, 2021) and remains in custody until next week (March 25, 2021) when they will have another bail hearing.
