While the Camp Lau-Ren website still gives a days-hours-minutes-seconds countdown to the facility’s scheduled summer opening, you can add another year to the start of that.
The North Renfrew Times is reporting that the United Church facility on the Ottawa River west of Deep River is to remain closed for a second season due to the logistic difficulties of operating during a pandemic.
Bottom line is while the camp will lose money by remaining shuttered, the costs of operating during COVID would be far greater, never mind the possible exposure risks.
The Board of Directors anticipates a joyous return to Camp in 2022 to help celebrate 70 years of summer camp around Camp Lau-Ren’s Rock.
