The MRC Pontiac is putting a grant from the Desjardin GoodSpark Fund to good use.
The municipality has received 113 thousand dollars over three years from the financial group to initiate a pilot project cleaning up plastic waste on farmland.
The aim is to reduce residual materials being sent to the landfill.
Phase One of the pilot will see fifteen selected agricultural businesses receive a specially-constructed press to bale agricultural plastics, which would then be either recycled or sent for energy recovery to CleanFarms, a non-profit environmental stewardship group.
This will expand to 45 eligible producers over the balance of the pilot project period.
Farm businesses interested in joining the initiative should email t.raimbault@mrcpontiac.qc.ca
