New Provincial legislation is aimed at facilitating the installation of reliable high-speed internet connectivity for rural Ontario communities.
A number of cost-cutting measures are proposed that would allow providers to attach broadband infrastructure on hydro utility poles.
It’s called the Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021 and it would also allow access to municipal rights of way to install broadband.
As many as 700,000 households and businesses in Ontario lack access to adequate broadband speeds or have no internet connection at all, and the legislation proposes to speed up the process of connecting them.
