The remainder of Renfrew County long-term care homes will have to wait to administer COVID-19 vaccines. Last week, the first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine were administered to 396 people at five long-term care homes across Renfrew County.
In February, Moderna is expected to ship between 20-25 percent less product to Canada.
Director of long-term care for the County of Renfrew, Shelley Sheedy, says this means the other five long-term care homes in our region will have to wait until next week to get their first doses.
Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew and Miramichi Lodge in Pembroke are among the local long-term care homes that will have to wait to administer the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Sheedy doesn’t expect there to be any issues for long-term care homes that need to administer their second COVID-19 shot as the shipments are expected to be back on track by the week of February 15th.
Sheedy the vaccinations will be staff led, with help from community paramedics and health unit staff.
She adds local long-term care homes are in communication and sharing information about how to improve the vaccination process.
The director of long-term care for the County of Renfrew says they will be ready to vaccinate residents when they receive doses.
