The recent CBC story on Racism in the Valley is making waves at local municipal council chambers.
The Town of Arnprior has already released a statement under the signature of Chief Administrative Officer Robin Paquette, and Renfrew Mayor Don Eady says his Council will be discussing the matter Tuesday as part of the regular municipal agenda.
Eady will speak on behalf of Renfrew Council following the session.
Paquette indicates that Mayor, Council and staff in Arnprior are committed to incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion in the delivery of municipal services, and as community members and human beings it is on us to fight against racism.
The news story arises in a climate where racism is being called out across the continent.
More and more, what is seen as self-congratulatory smugness in denying what is a fact of life for the racialized victims in our communities is being replaced by the knowledge that platitudes can’t vanquish prejudice- and social progress can’t be selected from a list of menu options.
