The County of Renfrew was recently targeted by a scam artist.
Back in October the Accounts Payable Department received an email from a construction vendor requesting a change to their banking information.
This contractor is currently involved in the rehabilitation of a bridge in Renfrew County and was expecting a transfer of $320,000.
The County’s accounts payable clerk contacted the construction vendor to confirm the change of bank account and they advised staff their email had been compromised.
The incident was reported to the local OPP.
The County of Renfrew recently added a Cyber Crime policy to their insurance portfolio, however there is still a significant deductible liability.
