The investigation into an injury a 21-year-old sustained while in police custody in Renfrew has wrapped up.
On November 3rd, the OPP arrested a man on an outstanding warrant who was transported to the Renfrew OPP detachment.
While in the cell, the man punched the cell wall and complained of pain in his hand.
The individual was taken to hospital and it was determined he fractured a finger.
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, says based on preliminary inquiries, which included a review of the video recording, he is satisfied that there is nothing to further investigate as far as the potential criminal liability of any police officers.
The SIU report says the man’s broken finger was the result of him punching the cell wall a number of times.
