The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is discouraging local hockey teams from playing outside of our jurisdiction at this time.
The health unit says they recognize the importance of Junior A and B hockey and these leagues are able to start as long as they follow guidelines like having a limited number of fans, non-contact play and league bubble restrictions.
Depending on how severe a team outbreak is the health unit says it may compromise the season.
The RCDHU says team outbreaks impact the health of players, coaches and close contacts such as family and friends.
To manage an outbreak the RCDHU says they complete contact tracing for those considered high risk and provide instruction on isolation and testing.
The health unit says as we head into the winter months mental and physical health is an important part of the fight against COVID-19.
If teams follow public health guidance and keep cases down, the RCDHU says sports will continue to play an integral role in our community health.
