Area Legions are making Remembrance Day plans well aware that COVID-19 will curtail public gatherings.
The Renfrew Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 148, will be scaling things back, according to Poppy Chair Bruce Ferguson. Bruce says area businesses are being asked to purchase wreaths as they normally do and the wreaths will be the prime component of a small ceremony on the 11th. The public is discouraged from attending. Rather, everyone should watch a flyover from Garrison Petawawa from the comfort of their own porches at 11AM.
Branch 353, Eganville, says that while its tradition is for an inside commemoration, this year’s ceremony will be a brief outside service- and, according to Mayor Jennifer Murphy, broadcast on the Bonnechere Valley YouTube channel.
Barry’s Bay, Branch 408 will have a bare minimum ceremony involving the placing of wreaths and while the public may be able to watch the event on Facebook Live, attendance is discouraged.
Everything in Arnprior is being recorded ahead of time. A small honour party will conduct a scaled-back service several days in advance, then shared digitally on the 11th.
