
Whitewater Region is expected to lose upwards of $115,000 this year in arena revenue.
In a report presented to council last week (October 21st) staff said ice will not be going in at the Beachburg and Westmeath arenas until the Fall of 2021.
Across Township arenas, demand has decreased by 1400 hours for this season.
Ice will be going in at the Cobden Astrolabe Arena this year, but due to pandemic safety protocols, only 40 hours of primetime ice can be accommodated.
Staff say due to the size of dressing rooms, they cannot be used.
Ice time will be prioritized for the Muskrat Minor Hockey Association (MMHA), all other minor sports, and adult leagues.
Staff will reach out to community partners to determine interests in outdoor ice.
Mayor Michael Moore says they look forward to working with community partners on alternate program opportunities, while continuing to provide arena ice to meet current demand in a fiscally responsible manner.
