The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is strongly recommending you cancel any traditional Halloween events where gatherings may occur. The RCDHU suggests celebrating virtually or with those in your immediate household.
For those planning to go trick-or-treating the health unit says wear a costume that allows you to wear a mask or face covering. A costume is NOT a substitute and shouldn’t be worn over face masks because it may make it difficult to breathe. Other safety tips from the local health unit include knocking instead of ringing the doorbell, trick-or-treating outside (not in apartment buildings), keeping groups to your direct household and remember to bring hand sanitizer.
If you’re handing out candy remember to wear a mask if physical distancing can’t be maintained, wash your hands often and consider alternative ways of handing out treats. The RCDHU says avoid self-serve bowls, instead space candy out on a table or blanket.
