Municipal regulations in Renfrew have now caught up with a popular residential feature- the portable garage.
At the Renfrew Town Council meeting of September 22nd, regulations were adopted that will apply to NEW portable garage installations.
(As long as older portable garages met previous rules, they are grandfathered).
New portable garages in the Town of Renfrew must be located on a driveway if they are in the front or side yard- and you can only put up one of them.
There is no limit to the number of portable garages, or where you put them if they are in your dwelling’s rear yard. Special provisions may apply if your lot is of an irregular shape.
The portable garages must be in good repair, and can only be erected from October 15th to May 15th annually.
Changes were incorporated into the Town’s Zoning By-Law and are up on the municipal website under the land use planning tab.
